The Uptown Getdown - August 15th, 2009

Three theatres featuring independent films, Ghostbusters, Caddyshack, an art show, six musical acts, and Burrito Jonz, wine, beer, and refreshments from 2pm to 10pm Saturday, August 15th, 2009.

Why is this happening?

The Uptown Getdown was created to showcase the Uptown Utica District, the New Uptown Theatre, local artists and musicians, show classic movies, give you access to independent films from Albany to Utica, and bring in a tasty food vendor all in one location on the same day. You show up to the Uptown Getdown and you have everything you need to have a perfect afternoon.

Where can I get tickets?

Tickets can be purchased at Big Apple Music, The Uptown Theatre, and Valley Music Supply. Tickets are $20.00. Get them now...the day of the event tickets will be $25.00 at the door. E-mail afmlocal51@gmail.com for more information.

What do I do after 10:00?

Not only is the Uptown Theatre going to house 8 hours of non-stop multifaceted entertainment in one location but when the Uptown Getdown ends you don't have to drive, walk, or take a bus anywhere. Cafe Domenico, The Green Onion Pub (great new place - look for it in July), the Hadley, and the Balkan are all on the same block. Buy a ticket to the Uptown Getdown and experience Uptown Utica like never before.

The Art Show

Collective works from Anita Domenico, Mary Fragapane, and Victor Lenuzza. The Uptown Getdown will be showing 20+ pieces of art from a range of artists.

Upstate Independents

Check out Upstate Independents, immediately! The current film list includes "Boxed In" directed by Joy E. Reed, "Us Two" directed by Larry Basch, "Breaking Up" and "Chasing Fate" directed by Jeff Burns, "Good and Clean" directed by Kevin Dobies, and "Distractions" directed by Michalina Almindo.

The last film mentioned is a special feature. Kevin Craig West, the President of Upstate Independents, plays the lead role in and wrote the film "Distractions." If your learning about Upstate Independents for the first time I strongly recommend you check out the website.
